After exam week and Thanksgiving break we have resumed normal class in AP literature and composition. This week we submitted SSR proposals which I found very interesting because I had never been asked to pair books and chose a linking topic on my own. I feel this class often tries to push us to do things we never have before and to take charge of our own learning. I am very excited to read the books I chose, especially Beloved, because I have heard how wonderfully awful they are. Every time I read a work of literature I learn a lot; it impacts me and how I think. I learn even more from Literature if I am given an assignment related to it or even discuss the work with my English class. Analyzing the text helps me to recognize aspects and meanings of the novel that I never would have on my own. The topic of this project was completely up to me so it was guaranteed to be something I am interested in. I am very excited to see where this project will take me. Also, this week we started our Shakespearean drama project. Similarly, in this project we got to choose which play to study (Macbeth or King Lear) as well as choosing a literary theory to use. My group chose feminism in Macbeth. Again, the freedom to chose allows each student to find something interesting to them. This cource refuses to put people in to the mold of the "typical English student." I am looking forward to studying Macbeth because it will probably be enjoyable but also because Shakespeare had and still does have so much influence. Also, I have also noticed that anybody who's somebody knows Shakespeare. I want to understand why him and his work are so important.
