Ashley Howell
Ashley was exposed to the enjoyment that reading provides when she was very young. In her first years of life her mother created many opportunities for Ashley to listen to books and stories. She began to fall in love with reading and the joy that it can bring. As she grew older her aunt began to read chapter books to her, specifically the Boxcar Children series. Those times are still some of the most important memories that she has. Reading with family created an incredibly enjoyable way for Ashley to connect with others. She believes people read for many reasons, including the desire to escape into another world, the quest for knowledge, and to have a connection to people all around the world; the author and fellow readers. The only things Ashley believes are required to be a good reader are determination and comprehension. The combination of these two elements create an unstoppable reading force. If a story has an interesting plot and innovative sentence structure, it is easy for Ashley to get pulled in and attached the the characters in a novel. The hardest part about reading for her is getting bored and losing interest in the material. Recently Ashley has been choosing more classical books, and looking at the impact they have had on society. She also reads the back cover of a novel before selecting it to see if the subject matter is something that will hold her interest. Ashley often binge reads; reading an entire novel in one sitting and then waiting a couple weeks before reading again. In general, Ashley enjoys reading and the way it can open her mind.
